Remote Car Starters

Remote car starters are devices that enable vehicle engines to warm themselves up even before the key is inserted in the ignition.  A remote control as small as the standard remote control used for locking and unlocking car doors is used to activate or deactivate a device connected to the ignition and other vital systems.  Once activated by the remote control from anywhere within a few yards, this device switches those systems on and essentially brings the car’s engine up and running but without the car itself moving an inch.  These devices give motorists the benefit of saving precious time by having their cars primed and ready for traveling on the open road the moment they get in the driver’s seat.

Prior to the introduction of remote car starters, car owners had to sit in their vehicles waiting for their engines to heat up until they were warm enough for driving, especially if they were untouched overnight.  This usually necessitated getting out of bed very early in the morning to have enough time to do everything needed to be done before driving the often long distance to work or elsewhere.  The problem is compounded during winter when one also had to perform the time-consuming and laborious task of scraping ice off the car itself before it could be driven.  With remote starters, it became possible for motorists to simply push a button and let their cars get warmed up outside or in the garage while they spent more time doing other essential activities like getting showered and dressed or eating breakfast, and the warming up could even melt any ice that has formed on the car.  Once motorists are done with all their other morning rituals, they can then simply get into their cars which, by then, will be good to go anywhere.

Remote car starters work just as well during the summer when cars left under the sun for hours will become as hot as ovens even with the air-conditioning units at full blast.  Just remember to leave your car’s AC switch turned on so that you could just push the starter button, give it a minute or two, and then enjoy cool comfort the moment you open the door.

Remote starters only get car engines started but they do not allow cars themselves to be driven away unless the key is in the ignition.  Features that have been incorporated to prevent theft include locking all the doors, preventing any gear shifting, and shutting the engine off automatically if the brake pedal is stepped on or if a predetermined period of time has been reached without any other movement.  These devices have not yet become standard equipment on motor vehicles fresh from the factories though installing them could take only a few hours.

Regardless of the manufacturer, remote starters are optimized for use in all makes of motor vehicle with anti-theft systems built in the United States from 2000 onwards so the actual installation process is nearly the same whether you drive a Ford or a Chevy.  As an added benefit for car owners, installing remote car starters will not void the warranty of their vehicles.
